Ten Easy Ways to Spot a Fake Rolex

Every desirable product attracts fakers, Rolex is no different. People have been making copies of these illustrious timepieces for years. Some are truly great, almost identical to the real thing, except in quality. Others are not so good.

If you love Rolex, you don’t want to be caught out. There’s a lot of money at stake, as well as a decent helping of pride. So we at Beckertime have put together this guide to help tell the fake from the real thing.

The best way to ensure you get a real Rolex is to buy from us. Beckertime is the largest pre-owned Rolex retailer in the world, and only sell the real thing. Every watch we stock is checked, authenticated, logged and prepared for sale. You will never get a fake from us!

The ten ways to spot a fake Rolex are:

  1. Rolex has only ever manufactured one watch with a transparent case and that’s extremely rare. If you see a glass-back case on a watch, it’s probably a copy
  2. Rolex has never manufactured anything made with rubber. If the watch has any rubber, it’s a fake
  3. Rolex has never made a skeleton dial. Many fakes feature this, stay away
  4. Oyster Perpetual Rolex watches are made with a screwed-back case, they have never made pop-up versions
  5. Rolex Oysters are manufactured of stainless steel, gold or platinum. Chrome or chrome-plate has never been used
  6. The only full-size Rolex watches to have day and date features are men’s
  7. The case of a Rolex President is platinum, yellow or white gold. They have never been stainless steel or two-tone stainless and gold
  8. Rolex watches are not gold-plated. Rolex is either 14 or 18-carat gold, nothing less
  9. Rolex does make a quartz movement watch, the perpetual Oyster. They make up fewer than 10% of all Perpetual Oysters, so check carefully before buying
  10. Rolex is a Swiss company that has manufactured watches in other countries, They include the U.S, Mexico, Italy and Venezuela. Never China. A “Chinese-made Rolex” is a fake

The best way to avoid buying a fake is to buy from a reputable Rolex dealer like Beckertime. We guarantee authenticity of all our watches and offer a full, no-quibble money-back guarantee on everything we sell.

Have you seen a fake Rolex? Did it seem cheap? How realistic was it? Let us know below.

Why doesn’t Rolex crack down on fakes? I know they can’t be everywhere but what about sites like this ?

Also, there doesn’t seem to be a way to contact Rolex about these sites. Just curious.

    • They do crack down on them through legal channels. There are import laws in the United States for bringing in Rolexes through customs, as well as mailing Rolex into the country because of the problem with fakes. Rolex Replicas very well might be a company operated outside of the EU and USA which makes it very hard for Rolex to pursue.

I’m in the military and travel to the Middle East often. There are “Haji Marts” everywhere on the military installations and they have numerous Rolex models, mens/womens sets, all fake of course, and folks buy them all the time. Most of them look cheap, but some are very good copies. Upon handling the timepiece, one can tell right away that what they are looking at is a fake. If it is illegal to bring these into the States, should I tell my fellow military members not to buy them. Most people I know that have bought them as a novelty. Can they get into trouble for bringing them into the States upon returning home? There are also Breitling and Tag Heuer fakes.

We strongly recommend against buying replica watches. It hurts the value of the brand when imitations flood the marketplace. That being said, it is not illegal to purchase a fake watch. It is, though, illegal to produce and/or sell a fake watch.

Today, I went to the beach front with my children.
I found a sea shell and gave it to my 4 year old daughter and said
“You can hear the ocean if you put this to your ear.” She put the shell to her ear and
screamed. There was a hermit crab inside
and it pinched her ear. She never wants to go back! LoL I know this
is entirely off topic but I had to tell someone!

My nieces ex-boyfriend ( a Major in the US Marines) left a black (with green 3,6 & 9) ROLEX Explorer Fragment design behind when he left her so she sold it to me for $1500.00 sight unseen. The crown and stem are missing. How much would it cost to replace them? I would also like to find out if it is real. My niece would not knowingly rip me off. I like to think of it as an investment. Thank you in advance for your time and consideration.
