In 2000, when de GRISOGONO entered the watchmaking stage, it featured a discerning timepiece imbued with a strong and unmistakable identity. A fascinating interplay between form and functions named INSTRUMENTO. Over the years, Fawaz Gruosi has constantly fostered innovation, determined to breathe new life into the watchmaking tradition. Daring to design forms that emphasise functions; developing original complications and mechanical breakthroughs; playing with aesthetics codes so as to exalt the art of measuring time. A de GRISOGONO unique blend of audacity, elegance and supreme complexity.
The following quote from Fawaz Gruosi, the Founder and Creative Director for de Grisogono describes his vision for this timepieces:
“de GRISOGONO timepieces are bold and exuberant, eager to stand out as they assert their unparalleled and unordinary style. Offering to the watchmaking world the special edge of its discerning watches, de GRISOGONO has broken new ground and featured world’s first engineering innovations. From enthralling and incredibly complicated watches to alluring high-jewellery masterpieces, de GRISOGONO creations are genuine tribute to the great innovators of traditional watchmaking and the most intricate jewellery craftsmanship while surpassing their fundamentals.”
Bold and with a sleek art-deco style is the form that is given to most of the de Grisogono timepieces, especially true for men. Whereas for the ladies the focus has been less on the technical but rather on the jewellery aspect of the piece. De Grisogono and Fawaz Gruosi in particular are jewellery designers, gem-setters first and foremost and they put it to stunning use when combined with horology on ladies timepieces.
2 standout examples are the Grappoli collection which is made up of 5 one-of-a-kind creations. They are all bejewelled with a colour palette of precious stones that is reminiscent of a rainbow in the sky. Finally there is the Crazy Skull a three dimensional sculpture of precious metal, precious stones and a mechanical heart all in the shape of a skull. It has to be seen to be believed and if you ever handle one, make sure you are sat down. It is a jaw-dropping example of master craftsmen and what they can produce in all their glory.
Art deco is a fantastic era and represents some of the best ever design work, perfect for a gentleman. For the ladies, there are two things to say, one is a single word and the second is a cliché.
Decadent and a girl’s best friend!
