Dave’s Ultimate Watch Christmas List for 2013
The team of columnists here at Beckertime have decided on our own ideal list of ‘must-have’ watches for our Christmas List, so without further ado, here is mine. Let me know which ones you guys like.
Tudor Pelagos
With Tudor’s return to American shores this year, they had with them a bevy of new models from this and last year such as the Black Bay and the Heritage Chrono, but the one that has caught my eye and is my favourite of the range is the Pelagos. With the complete titanium construction, the beautiful snowflake hands, monochromatic dial and innovative clasp mechanism make this a true utility watch. Tudor you have been sorely missed!
Rolex GMT-Master II BLNR
First released at Baselworld 2013, it is beautifully crafted and unique dual colour ceramic bezel, with a GMT complication. My choice of Rolex, and the watch I have opted to purchase. Be prepared to wait for one however. Once I get my hands on mine there will be a #womw review.
Omega Speedmaster Dark Side of The Moon
This special Speedmaster is exactly that, Special. Case, dial, bezel, crown, pushers and even the buckle are all ceramic. A mix of brushed and polished surfaces with a stunning movement the Calibre 9300 make this ‘the’ Speedmaster to have. I love the stealth look and this watch hits all the right buttons. If you like black then this is certainly the watch for you. If you are feeling generous, you can always buy me one.
MB&F Legacy Machine 2
The updated beautiful Legacy Machine 2 from MB&F, what the eye can see are two oversized balance wheels, both suspended by arched flying buttress type structures, which are hypnotic. Trust me they will put you into a trance! This beautiful piece has in my mind, two of the greatest in the watch industry, none other than Jean-Francois Mojon, and Kari Voutilainen. My choice would be the Platinum variation with the blued dial. This is undeniably the coolest classical looking watch.
Romain Gauthier Logical One
Romain Gauthier’s Logical One is quite possibly my favourite watch of this year, and I want one desperately. Unfortunately I am not an oligarch nor do I have super powerful friends, but this thing is a technical tour de force with utmost attention to detail. This is the finest chain and fusee type movement I have ever seen, and then the overall aesthetics of this piece i.e. being able to see the chain itself, make this an absolute masterpiece. Who doesn’t love a chain of rubies? My watch of the year.
