Basel Buzz
As you may know, Baselworld is nearly upon us. The huge watch show in Basel, Switzerland opens March 19th and runs through the 26th. In fact, I believe my compadré Dave Kaiten will be there. – hopefully blogging live.
Eight days of geeking out over new watches, lamenting the ones we’d hoped brands would release but didn’t, and – yes – speculation about what might be in store next year.
Remember the much anticipated Rolex Pepsi GMT-Master II from last year? Yes, it dropped, but only in white gold. Will there be a stainless steel version this year? Rolex has done that in the past – releasing a steel version a year after a new gold reference.
And what about a panda Daytona (my personal favorite hoped-for piece)? A throwback to the Paul Newman and similar references would be great, but I think that ship sailed with the Daytona’s 50th anniversary a couple of years ago. Still, a watch geek can dream…
And there’s some crazy stuff that’s already been announced. Arnold & Son’s Constant Force Tourbillon, for instance.
And what about Hamilton’s Ventura Elvis80, celebrating what would have been The King’s 80th birthday this past January 8th.
Or the more conservative Longines Conquest Classic Moonphase, from a favorite brand of mine. No waiting for the steel version of this one, it’ll be available right away in either steel, two-tone steel and rose gold, or rose gold.
And many more have been announced to an eagerly awaiting horological press. Go have some fun searching Google!
